SBR – Full biological treatment plant

The SBR biological treatment plant is designed to treat domestic and municipal wastewater wherever effective treatment under a variable load is required.

Thanks to its specific design, the biological plant copes with excess wastewater, overloads, temperature swings and a temporary lack of inflow, for example when you are away on holiday. Typical applications of SBR plants therefore also include small settlements, recreational and sports complexes, hotels and tourist resorts.

The technology of treating wastewater with activated sludge in batch systems (SBR) is based on sequencing batch reactors. The treatment process runs cyclically and consists of several phases.

Phases of wastewater treatment in a biological plant:

  • Initial phase – the decanting of the clarified, treated effluent is complete. Raw wastewater flows into the reactor.
  • Mixing and filling phase – raw wastewater keeps flowing into the reactor, where aerobic and anaerobic conditions are created alternately. The load on the activated sludge grows with the inflow. Thanks to the control of the aerator, nitrification and denitrification run simultaneously.
  • Final phase – the treatment processes end and the wastewater level in the tank approaches its maximum.
  • Sedimentation phase – the aerating and mixing unit stops. The sludge settles and the effluent clarifies.
  • Decanting and excess sludge removal phase – once sedimentation is complete, the activated sludge collects in the bottom layer, exposing the clarified effluent. The treated effluent is then decanted by pump or statically. After the process the excess sludge is removed.

Advantages of the plant

  • A safe design was achieved by eliminating moving parts. That is why no electric pumps are used in the SBR; the monolithic polyethylene (PE) tank keeps the unit tight.
  • The SBR biological plant carries the CE mark – it was tested by a notified body for conformity with PN-EN 12566-3+A1:2009, so our plants deliver high treatment efficiency confirmed by tests.
  • Low sensitivity to power cuts – if the supply fails, the controller adjusts the treatment phases to the volume of wastewater flowing in and starts the appropriate phase depending on how much has accumulated.
  • The treatment process is automated – it allows the treatment cycle to be controlled, and the controller adapts automatically to the volume of inflow.
  • The plant can be set to standby – this keeps the treatment process alive even with no inflow for up to 2 weeks.
  • Easy and cheap extension – thanks to the modular design, extending the plant means adding another tank without replacing all its components.
  • Treatment in the SBR biological plant runs without the need for bio-preparations.
  • A long service life and reliability – the PE tanks are made as one piece and additionally reinforced inside with steel.
  • The plant does not require a large area for installation.
  • The SBR allows the treated medium to be discharged, e.g. into a drainage ditch.

Ecology

The tanks of the SBR biological plant and the components inside them are 100% recyclable and the material can be reused. The unit is energy-efficient – it saves money and protects the environment. By treating wastewater we protect a precious resource: water. Applications of the plant: single- and multi-family houses, holiday resorts, small businesses, campsites, tent sites and more.
